Sicknesses and Polyphasic Sleep
When you're sick with anything more than a mild flu (with symptoms above the neck), it's best to return to mono to fully recover before continuing polyphasic sleep.- If you are adapted/adapting to a poly schedule and get sick, you can still be polyphasic. However, while sleep deprived, it is harder for your immune system to resist sickness. Consequently, it is advisable to lengthen* your core(s) (or nap(s) in circumstances where core(s) cannot be extended) to accommodate the elevated vital needs required for recovering.
- If you're adapted, you may not need to extend your schedule if it has a high enough sleep total to accommodate the increased vital needs.
- If you are on a nap-only schedule, it is best that you return to a non-reducing schedule immediately.
*When lengthening, naps should be replaced by an extra full cycle, and cores should be extended by a full cycle as well; do not use a random length!
