Oversleeping

Oversleeping can be defined either as any sleeping that happens out of the schedule, or any sleep that is more than the body actually requires.

There are different symptoms depending on which kind of oversleep is being talked about:

During adaptation: Out of schedule sleep

This kind of oversleep is what OSS is about, and it can easily be fatal for adaptation (see cant-adapt). Any oversleep more than half of the schedule's TST in length means recovery is recommended as adaptation progress is likely reset.

Prevention of this kind of oversleep is done using alarms and strategies to stay-awake.

While adapted or on a non-reducing schedule

This kind of oversleep is characterized by feeling unrefreshed after a block of sleep when it is too long. It decreases sleep quality even though all vitals are met, and can cause drift (similar to N24). It can also cause you to unadapt very easily, and will mess with your circadian. Later core cycles are also characterized by decreased sleep efficiency in general.
